“The invisible blanket that covers our city”
Above the polluted cloud
I sit on this cable car huffing from the summer heat taking me away from the chaos of crowded Butwal to the peaceful hills of Nuwakot.
Three minutes into the ride,I start seeing the aerial view of the entire Butwal city.
Slightly hazy clouds, blurry infrastructures and smoky air above the city.
By the time I reach the top of the hill, fresh air hits my face, cool misty fog around me, a scene out of the movies.
That’s how drastically the scenery of the environment changes because of air pollution.
From the streets below, the city appears almost normal.
People rush to work, students standing at the bus stops, and everyone else busy in their own world.
It is only from above that the blanket of haze covering the city becomes visible.
The smoky layer looming over Butwal is a reminder that air pollution is often not noticed by those living within it.
While residents carry on with their daily routines, the lingering air pollution silently affects the air that they breathe every day.
