Our Development is Not Sustainable for Nature

Tansen, Palpa, Lumbini ProvinceJun 2026

Developmental Destruction

This image is from the way to Nuwakot, Palpa.

The road connecting Butwal and Nuwakot is being pitched currently.

In the process of construction of the road, this is the image of mixing concrete and gravel for blacktopping of the road.

This process is must to make a road, but we shall consider the consequences it brings.

The Bitumen/Asphalt made in very high temperature where the materials like, Bituminous coal, Crude oil, Stones and Cement are mixed together.

This process emits extremely harmful and toxic gases like, Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂) & Nitrogen Oxides (NO), Hydrogen Sulfide (H₂S) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Carbon Dioxide (CO₂).

This also emit other hazardous harmful substances like, naphthalene (which gives it the distinct mothball-like smell), fluorene, and phenanthrene. This type of road construction is one of the prominent contributors for about 8% of global carbon emissions.

This method of road construction, directly impact life of people around and also contribute to air pollution.

We must use other alternative sustainable methods of development.

Development is Necessary, but Harming Nature in name of development is threaten ourselves.

We must shift into sustainable development.
