“Fresh veggies, fresh smoke Kathmandu street vendors serving produce and pollution, free of charge.”
Smoky & Selling It
Nobody asked for a smoke machine at the vegetable market.
And yet, here we are. Every morning in Kathmandu, our street vendors arrive before sunrise loyal, hardworking, absolutely unbothered by air quality guidelines.
They bring tomatoes, spinach, bananas, and apparently, a complimentary smoke show that no weather app can predict. The wires above? Decorative.
The haze? Atmospheric.
The guy on the motorbike leaning in for a closer look? Either a customer or deeply confused. Meanwhile the tree in the background is doing its absolute best one brave soldier filtering the air while everything around it conspires against clean breathing. We love our street food culture.
We love our vendors.
But maybe just maybe we don't need the open burning as a side dish. Because right now Kathmandu's air quality is already working overtime.
Our lungs didn't sign up for extra shifts. Kindly ask them to skip the bonfire.
Your vegetables and your respiratory system will thank you.

"Even in crowded cities, nature still finds small spaces to survive."
