“Suffocating Commute”
Suffocating Commute
A normal commute through the city should not be a struggle for survival.
As shown in the image , a normal commute in Kathmandu requires commuters to convert their clothes into shields against an endless barrage of dust. With tens of thousands of motorbikes and people commuting through these unmettled roads, the act of breathing has become hazardous.
With the constant barrage of dust that gets raised due to the traffic, there is no room left for breathing as citizens are forced to breathe in the harmful particulate matter.
With or without masks, the suffocating dust causes permanent eye damage and harms the lungs. Development is never supposed to be at the expense of public health.
Air that can be breathed is necessary for safety, dignity, and survival.
No one should have to breathe through toxic fog to go about his or her life.
