Suffocating in Trash

Every day, Maya sets up her small tea shop by the road, and she does this near a growing heap of plastic bags, styrofoam boxes, and organic waste.

What once was only a heap now engulfs the whole corner, obstructing the path and seeping out a thick, nasty black slurry of pollutants all over the place. Maya has to live under the environmental deterioration every single day because of the stifling smell of toxic chemicals produced from the baking of plastic and decaying organic materials.

These smells have caused her severe headaches and a sore throat.

People see the heap and just walk right past the shop and away from the stench. Open dumping is but a manifestation of the fact that environmental negligence has its heaviest toll on people working outdoors and living near polluted areas.

Clean environment and clean air are not privileges but human rights, necessary for life and respectability.

Nobody should have to suffer the poisonous environment just for earning money.
