“The Prayer Rises, But So Does the Smoke...”
When Faith Takes a Step
Today I saw something meaningful happening at Doleshwor Mahadev Temple.
The committee has taken a strong initiative banning incense sticks to reduce air pollution and protect the environment in the name of spirituality.
It felt like a beautiful step forward.
Faith and responsibility walking together.
But as I stood there, I also noticed something else.
Even after the decision, some people still continue using them out of habit, belief, or emotion. And I understand… change is not always easy. We have always connected devotion with smoke, fragrance, and tradition. But maybe devotion can also mean protecting the air we all breathe inside and outside the temple. True spirituality may not just rise with the smoke… it may also lie in what we choose not to burn.
